Global sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment fell 1.3% in 2023

According to the latest (Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics Repor) released by SEMI, the total global semiconductor equipment sales in 2023, compared with the record high of $107.6 billion in 2022, slightly decreased by 1.3%. To $106.3 billion.

 

  In South Korea, the second-largest equipment market, equipment spending fell 7 percent to $19.9 billion due to weak demand and inventory adjustments in the memory market. Total equipment sales in Taiwan, China, fell 27 percent to $19.6 billion after four years of growth.

 

North America, thanks to strong investment driven by CHIPS and the Science Act, increased annual semiconductor equipment investment by 15%; Europe also edged up 3 percent. Sales in Japan and the rest of the world were down 5 percent and 39 percent, respectively, from the same period last year.

 

Despite a slight decline in global equipment sales, the semiconductor industry continues to strengthen, driving growth in key regions through strategic investments, and the overall results for the year are still better than most industry expectations.

 

From the perspective of equipment type division, global sales of wafer processing equipment in 2023 increased by 1% in 2023, while sales in other front-end areas increased by 10%, packaging equipment continued the recession trend in 2022, falling by 30% in 2023, and total sales of test equipment fell by 17% compared with the previous year.
