Continuous improvement in the memory market
The memory sector was the hardest hit sector during the semiconductor market recession that began in 2022, dropping from $43.6 billion in Q1 2022 to $19.3 billion in Q1 2023. Starting from the low point in Q1 2023, the market rebounded from $19.3 billion in Q3 this year to $24.5 billion. Four of the top five memory manufacturers saw a double-digit percentage point increase in memory IC revenue in Q3 2023 compared to Q2. The demand for artificial intelligence accounts for a large part, but the demand for other applications is also increasing.
NVIDIA's ranking continues to rise, becoming the second largest semiconductor company by revenue. This has broken the long-standing dominance of Intel and Samsung Electronics in the semiconductor market. For many years, these two companies have alternated between being ranked first and second.
