Global Storage Market Environment

According to a Gartner report, the global semiconductor revenue in 2022 reached $601.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.1%. Among the top ten semiconductor manufacturers globally in 2022, Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix all have storage businesses, and their market share in 2022 is approximately 20% of the semiconductor market share. At the same time, there are 6 companies in TOP 10 that specialize in mobile SoCs, CPUs, and GPUs. These companies' products can provide high-performance computing, accounting for approximately 30% of the entire semiconductor market share.
 

The above information can be inferred that memory and high-performance computing are the two pillars of the semiconductor industry. Therefore, there are two product drivers in the global semiconductor industry: firstly, the development of memory tends to have higher performance, lower power consumption, and larger capacity; Secondly, there is a strong demand for high-performance computing chips. Among the chip production capacity put into production by TSMC in Q4 last year, 80% were mobile phone chips and high-performance computing chips.
 

Observing the storage market in 2022, the entire industry was in a shortage stage in the first half of the year, but after the third quarter, the storage industry entered a destocking stage. Although the global storage market size exceeded $150 billion in 2022, a slight increase compared to 2021, the decline in the storage industry was very severe in the second half of last year. Last year, the DRAM market size was only $80.099 billion, while the NAND market size was only $60.045 billion.
