Global chip sales have shrunk for the first time since the beginning of 2020!
With weak demand, South Korea's chip production has further declined, and global chip sales have shrunk for the first time since the beginning of 2020, which has hit the Korean economy, which is highly dependent on the semiconductor industry and has not yet adapted to weak demand.
In terms of chip inventory, Samsung also warned that chip inventory remained high.
In September, global semiconductor sales fell 3% year on year. The National Bureau of Statistics said on Monday that in the same month, the output of Korean chip manufacturers decreased by 3.5% year on year, lower than the 0.1% drop in August.
It is known to the industry that semiconductor is the largest source of income for the Korean economy. Due to the weak currency, expanding the trade deficit, and the rise in global interest rates affecting consumers' demand for the country's technology exports, the Korean economy began to slow down last quarter.
In addition, under the impact of multiple factors such as China's anti epidemic measures and the Russian Ukrainian war, the profitability of Samsung and other Korean chip manufacturers was overshadowed. Samsung predicted at the French conference that demand would not recover until at least the second half of 2023.
The growth rate of chip inventory in South Korea is still high, reaching 54.7% in September; Semiconductor factory shipments showed signs of stability, down only 0.9% year on year.
South Korea's overall industrial production grew 0.8% year-on-year in September, lower than the 1% estimated by economists. Compared with a month ago, it contracted by 1.8%, which is deeper than the 0.8% drop predicted by analysts.
