MacBook Pro is expected to be the first to use 3nm chips
In September 2021, Apple’s latest iPhone 13 series of smartphones uses an enhanced version of the 5nm process A15 bionic chip. The A15 bionic chip is based on the 5nm process technology and is equipped with a brand-new 5-core graphics processor and central processing unit. It has a 16-core neural network engine, an integrated number of transistors of 15 billion, and an AI computing power of 15.8 TOPS.
According to the test results of the test platform, the maximum performance gap between A15 and A14 single-core is 11.3%, the minimum gap is -0.5%, and the median performance gap is 5.3%; the maximum gap between A15 and A14 multi-core performance is 32.13%. The smallest gap is 7.8%, and the median performance average gap is 19.05%.
Apple will launch the third-generation chip in 2023. It plans to use a 3nm process to support up to 4 die (wafer units), and the top configuration can integrate up to 40 CPU cores. The current codename of Apple’s third-generation chip is lbiza, Lobos and Palma. The third-generation 3nm Apple chip will appear on high-end Mac computers for the first time.
