On April 16, Infineon Technologies AG announced that it has completed the acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor. Cypress, headquartered in San Jose, will formally merge into Infineon from now on.

In March of this year, both Infineon and Cypress issued an announcement on the official website that the US Foreign Investment Commission ("CFIUS") had completed the review of Infineon's acquisition of Cypress in accordance with relevant regulations, but it still required Approved by Chinese regulators; In April, Infineon announced on its official website that the acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor has obtained all necessary regulatory approvals.

 

It is understood that Infineon was formerly the semiconductor division of the Siemens Group. It was formally independent from Siemens in 1999 and is in the forefront of the world in automotive electronics, power semiconductors, security chips and other fields; Cypress was established in 1982, mainly for automotive , Industrial, consumer electronics, etc. provide embedded solutions, with a differentiated product portfolio including microcontrollers, software, and connected components, which are highly complementary to Infineon ’s superior power semiconductors, sensors, and security solutions.

 

Infineon previously pointed out in its press release that the two sides are highly complementary in terms of technology, which will further expand its market potential in high-growth markets such as automotive, industrial and Internet of Things. In addition, the merger of the two will greatly increase Infineon's revenue scale, and this transaction will make Infineon the eighth largest chip maker in the world.
